Tour de France - Stage 19 Results

The day started with rumors of yet another positive doping test, but the 11 a.m. conference at which the offending rider was to be announced passed without any mention of it.

American Levi Leipheimer put in a blazing performance in today's individual time trial to come within 31 seconds of the yellow jersey. Still, he remains in 3rd, behind teammate Alberto Contador and Australian Cadel Evans.

Sunday's race is traditionally a parade into Paris, but with talks of a rider protest against doping tomorrow, whether the riders hold to tradition is anyone's guess.

Trek Rolls Out Their 2008 Line

The Trek web site has been updated and now features all of their new models for 2008. They are, of course, focusing on the new line of Madones. There are 13 bikes in the Madone line including 4 "Pro" models and 3 that are designed especially for women. There are 4 ranges of carbon that are being used on the Madones, ranging from OCLV Red Carbon in the Pro line to something called TCT Carbon at the low end. I'm curious to see what will happen with the Madone line now that they are not backing the Discovery Channel team.   I really like the Portland (above), a nifty looking commuter bike with fenders and disk brakes. If I start riding home more often, one of these may be in my future. A lot of the Madone technology, as well as lessons learned from the Pro Tour, Ironman competitions and wind tunnel testing goes into the updated Equinox Tri/TT series (below).

First "Look" at Look 586 Road Frame

The new Bikeradar.com site (formerly cycling.co.uk) gives a first look at Look's new 586 high modulus carbon road frame that will come out in 2008.  It is 100g lighter than the frame it replaces. Like it's predecessor, it has an integrated seatpost, but this model includes elastomer blocks in the post that will help to soften the ride a little bit.  The same article mentions the introduction of the Keo Grip cleat. Apparently this is the Keo cleat with some rubber grip pads to help keep your feet under you when walking.  The new products can be seen at Look Cycle's web site . As an aside, I see that the review was written by Gary Boulanger, of the late, great Cycles Gaansari.
